Printmaking Project

           For this art project we had to make an 3 state proofs, edition of 8 and 2 artist proofs. I originally had 2 extra editions except one managed to disappear and out of frustration I threw one away not realizing that it was important because I lost one. I did struggle with making my prints, most did not turn out the way I wanted but it was fun learning a new art style. With all I have learned from this project I would want to try printmaking again and see if I would progress.             To the right I have the image I was referencing for my landscape. I took that photograph last summer at the blue ridge mountains. I love going to Boone and going to the overlooks they have. It was hard to chose specific areas of the photograph I wanted to keep and what I wanted to get rid of because there was so much going on. I also ended up adding trees to make the foreground pop out more.             ...

Exploratory Prints (Collograph & 3 color reduction styro)

It was fun learning a new style of art. It was a harder and longer process than I expected. I knew it would be hard because I have never tried printmaking but I was hoping my prints would turn out better. I didn't realize I had to shrink the size of my original drawing for the terrors of technology page. I had to make sure the arms and hands were in proportion to the head. I figured out how to make it proportional by using something to cover the part of the drawing that would not fit. My main goal was still to have the clear message of how technology is affecting our creativity and not in a good way. Then when it came to carving into the Styrofoam, I struggled. Some of the carvings came out the way I wanted, while others did not. I messed up greatly on the left arm, when I was carving my pencil kept getting stuck and turning into a jagged line instead of a smooth line. I would've carved the apps on the phone more clean and bigger if I had known they would've come...
