Printmaking Project

For this art project we had to make an 3 state proofs, edition of 8 and 2 artist proofs. I originally had 2 extra editions except one managed to disappear and out of frustration I threw one away not realizing that it was important because I lost one. I did struggle with making my prints, most did not turn out the way I wanted but it was fun learning a new art style. With all I have learned from this project I would want to try printmaking again and see if I would progress.
To the right I have the image I was referencing for my landscape. I took that photograph last summer at the blue ridge mountains. I love going to Boone and going to the overlooks they have. It was hard to chose specific areas of the photograph I wanted to keep and what I wanted to get rid of because there was so much going on. I also ended up adding trees to make the foreground pop out more.

To the right I have a picture of my plate when I started the color of the sky. I like the way the clouds came out because it is easy to tell what they are. I was able to leave little lines to show movement in a few of the clouds. I also loved the light blue color that came out. I struggled with making the ends of some of the clouds round. A few of the clouds came out bigger than planned. Although I found the carving very soothing.

At the bottom of this paragraph, I have my state proofs showing the colors I used. Light blue, dark blue and purple in one print and dark green. As seen in the bottom photo my layering was very off. I was glad that was my state proof. I made the mistake of putting my rubber plate on the paper and letting it fall. I did this for most of the first color prints. When it was time to put the second and third print down it was hard to line up.

To the left I have my favorite print and my least favorite. I loved the way my print came out on the black, I think it made colors pop out more. To me it is my most appealing print. My least favorite came out terribly because the paper ripped off and stuck to my plate. I was very frustrated and confused by this because it could've been a very good print.
This last print is the print I decided to hang outside on the wall.
